1) WHAT THEY SEE DETERMINES WHAT YOU GET
Why is it that when I am dressed in a suit and look like a successful professional, people address me as SIR and treat me differently than when I go out dressed in jeans and a t-shirt? The answer is really quite simple. If you look like a professional, and you act in a professional manner, people in general will treat you accordingly. How people "see" you, dictates how people will treat you. The question you have to ask yourself is, "How do I want people to see me?"
When it comes to your web site, how do you want people to "see" your company? You may offer the best products or services, but if your site looks unprofessional, your chances of converting your site traffic into actual sales are slim to none. When was the last time you placed an order from a site that looked like it was designed by someone who just learned basic HTML?
Revisit the web sites where you have made purchases from and create a list of what influenced you to make purchases from those sites. Then use the list as a guide to implement the changes needed to your web site.
BOTTOM LINE:
A well designed, professional looking web site can be the equalizer that lets your small company compete with larger companies in your space.

4) SOME OF MY FAVORITE TRAVELING GADGETS
Being a mobile professional, I can sometimes be a sucker for every travel-related gadget or accessory that comes along promising convenience and ergonomics. If I laid all of my different carrying cases on my living room floor, for example, I'd be looking at a knee-deep sea of black ballistic nylon, leather and Cordura. Nevertheless, real winners do occasionally emerge, so let me tell you about a few of my favorites:
-- Rotring Datapen: I've tried several multipens, and the Rotring is among the finest. Equipped with a stylus, pen, hiliter, and 0.5mm mechanical pencil in a body hardly any thicker than a standard pen body, the Rotring Datapen is a must for handheld computing enthusiasts. The unique implement selection mechanism is novel at first, but always useful. The chalky-feeling black finish is durable and easy to grip. -- Suunto X-Lander Wrist Computer: This is a fancy version of the Suunto Vector wristwatch, so popular with hikers and climbers around the world. It's equipped with a huge, very readable digital LCD display, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, stopwatch, alarm clock, countdown timer, and, for those of us trekking through unfamiliar environs often, a compass. The compass can be a lifesaver, and, prior to the X-Lander, I carried a pocket compass with me everywhere I went. It’s also a great travel alarm clock for me. Important note: the X-Lander is HUGE, which is something I happen to like. Despite its size, however, its carbon fiber and aluminum construction keep it on the lighter side of watchdom. For those of you who looking for just the crucial compass component, I own and would highly recommend a Silva Landmark 427 with sighting mirror and lid (for $20.00 to $25.00) or the wristwatch band mounted Silva Model 340 (for $10.00 to $15.00).

-- Briggs & Riley BU-18 Vertical Office: On those trips where you have to take your whole office with you, where you'll be doing a lot of walking, and/or you'll be wearing a suit that you can't afford to wrinkle with a backpack, a rolling case is your best option. I've tried several different models, but I've found the Briggs & Riley Vertical Office to be the best. Though capacious, its exterior dimensions are plenty manageable enough to make it a carry-on. And it's built like a brick outhouse, having taken copious amounts of abuse from me and airline baggage handlers while always keeping the contents well-protected.
