1. DO YOU SABOTAGE YOUR OWN SUCCESS?
When you read my question above, was your answer one of the following?
- No, I would never sabotage my own success.
- What is this guy talking about?
- Why would I do that?
Well if you are consistently growing your business and generating more revenue each month than the previous month, then there is no need for you to read this article any further. In fact, I suggest that you skip this article and move on. 8-)
For the rest of you (which would be the mass majority), read on to find out if you are sabotaging your success.
In your home, you have a temperature comfort zone. You set your thermostat to heat your home if it gets too cold, and to cool your home if it gets too hot. By setting the thermostat controls to your temperature comfort zone, you don't have to worry about constantly turning on the heat or turning on the air conditioner. It just happens automatically.
In your business life, you have a success comfort zone, and without actually thinking about it, you will subconsciously do whatever it takes to stay within that success comfort zone.
Let's say that you make $100,000 per year with your web site (your success comfort zone). If the traffic to your web site stays consistent and you are happy to make $100,000 per year - you may find yourself not doing what it takes to increase your traffic even further to generate an additional $100,000 per year. By not increasing your efforts while you are on top, you are subconsciously sabotaging your success so that you can stay within your success comfort zone. In this example, when you're HOT and making too much money, your thermostat kicks in and you slow down your marketing efforts to stay within your comfort zone.
However, the moment that your traffic takes a dive and your revenue drops drastically, you find yourself scrambling to increase your position on the search engines, or trying to figure out new ways to market your web site. In other words, things started to cool down way too much, so you turn up the heat by working all through the night, every night, until you get the traffic level back to where you are making your comfortable $100,000 per year again.
So what's the solution to end this type of self-sabotage? Acknowledging the problem is only half of the solution. You need to decide what type of action you must take to
prevent yourself from getting stuck in a comfort zone.
My suggestion: Make it a goal to increase your revenue by x percent each month. You decide what the value of x is, and do whatever it takes to meet your goal. Keep a daily accounting of where you stand in relationship to exceeding that monthly goal. Tell yourself every day that you are not comfortable unless you meet or exceed that goal, and your subconscious thermostat will be set.

4) MANAGING YOUR TIME - ONLY 24 HOURS IN A DAY
As an Internet business owner, you find yourself online at all hours of the day. After all, when it's evening where you are, it's the start of the business day for your client who is half way around the world.
If you are like me, chances are you wish there were more than 24 hours in a day. This way we all could accomplish even more tasks before the beginning of the next day. 8-) All the wishing in the world will not change the fact that we are given 24 hours every day to accomplish what we need to do.
The GIVEN:
* 24 hours in a day
* 8 hours of sleep recommended (I prefer 10 hours if I can get it)
This leaves 16 hours of awake time to accomplish the following.
The VARIABLES:
* meetings/appointments
* email
* phone calls
* customer service issues
* tasks (that lead to accomplishing your goals)
* filing (paper and electronic)
* breakfast, lunch, dinner
* family time
* travel time
* personal time
* exercise time (no time for this? block out 10 minutes to do simple exercises such as jumping jacks, push-ups & sit-ups)
* planning session (to plan TOMORROW, today) (this list goes on and on)
Now open up your planner to TOMORROW and start blocking out time for the GIVEN and the VARIABLES. I'm serious. Open up your planner and do it. Block out 8 hours of your day for sleep, block out the time for any appointments or meetings that you have tomorrow, then proceed to block out the time for all of the other VARIABLES above. By doing this, you will have a visual representation of your day and will be able to manage your time, instead of letting your time manage you. You will have a realistic view of what you will get accomplished tomorrow.
By blocking out time for all of the above VARIABLES, you can stay on track and finish what you need to finish, instead of getting side tracked by all of the little things that pop up during the course of your day, such as incoming email, browsing web sites, checking stock quotes, etc. 8-)
BOTTOM LINE:
Time is a perishable commodity. Once it passes, you can never get it back. Make the commitment. Block out time for the GIVEN and the VARIABLES and you will succeed, personally and professionally.
