1) CRASH TESTING YOUR WEBSITE COULD SAVE YOU MONEY!
Has your site been crash tested? Are you absolutely certain that everything on your site works properly?
We recently had the following unfortunate experience. After focusing heavily on marketing, we launched a new marketing campaign. Soon we had an irate email. A gentleman pointed out he could not get the free download nor could he place an order. We had already received orders, so we were just about to dismiss this as the writings of a computer illiterate, who probably had trouble turning the thing on, when we decided to check it out.
To my horror he was right! We have two identical sites, with different domain names, and I had just spent a small fortune promoting one of them, to find it was not possible to place an order! It took only a few minutes to find the problem - wrong links to the order page. I had checked this before, but somehow the page was subsequently changed and uploaded. He later informed me that the free download was not downloading, despite a free bonus (a "thankyou" for bringing it to my attention) that had downloaded perfectly well.
We tried and again, he was right! We couldn't see the problem, so we just uploaded a "fresh" version, and it worked. I don't even want to think about how many customers we might have lost as most people will just abandon your site, rather than take the time to let you know something is wrong. This chap could have saved us a fortune, so I sent him a free bonus! He was as pleased as punch, and I was grateful that someone out there took the time to point the problems out. He is my best customer. He didn't purchase anything, but he saved me from losing dozens of potential customers, who would simply "surf" elsewhere when things didn't work.
So, always:
1)Test that everything on your site works/loads properly.
2)Test everything works after making any changes, however small the changes may be.
3)Test all downloads thoroughly. Things can happen that you may never know about. Such as problems with your ISP's server, corrupted data, etc.
4)Run test orders to make sure that your shopping cart and credit card processing systems function properly.
5)Check the load time of your site, over a normal phone line. You may have a high speed connection, but most people are still connected via regular phone lines. They will go elsewhere if it takes 30 seconds to load your index page.
6)Check all the above, on different computers and browsers. Does your site look and function as it should?
7)Encourage your customers to report faults and reward them for their feedback!
There are may choices out there, so don't give visitors an excuse to go elsewhere. Make sure everything on your site works. Test everything, then test everything again!

4) HOW TO REACH YOUR GOALS ON THE INTERNET

The answer lies in the "Brick and Mortar" business world. All successful real world business's have a written business plan. It usually details the owner's financial goals, operating hours, ad budget, etc. The owner follows the business plan to achieve their business and personal goals. They don't work 24/7 to do what they planned.

Just because our store is located on the Internet doesn't mean that we should ignore the real world concept of having a business plan to achieve our business and personal goals. We all need to have a written plan to follow, although it doesn't have to be hundreds of pages in length, it MUST be written down.
<> Two simple forms to use.
Form 1. My goals for my Internet Marketing.
Why am I marketing on the Internet? (If you don't know your "WHY" then the "HOW" doesn't matter!)
The things that I would like my Internet Marketing to give me: list your top 5 goals
(i.e., retirement fund, mortgage payment, new car.)
Then list your Financial goals.
My 6 MO. goal.--$$$ per month_______
My 1 year goal--$$$ per month_______
My 2 year goal--$$$ per month_______
Then at the bottom, sign your name and date it. This will make it a contract with yourself.
Form 2. My Internet store hours.
On this form list the days of the week, and after each day list the number of hours you will work and the times. Be specific.
After you have completed the forms post them in a spot in your office where they are in line of sight while your working on your computer. They will serve as a reminder of your business plan and that you have other important things to do.
If you plan for success, then work your plan... you WILL succeed!
